We're excited to announce an artist residency at Rockwell Table & Stage in Los Feliz. The Budman/Levy Orchestra will be collaborating with Concord recording artist, Spencer Day, throughout the month of November. Stop by the Rockwell's site for information and tickets.
The BLO played the historic Lighthouse Cafe in Hermosa Beach last year. Here are some wonderful pictures from that gig, taken by Gordon Sapsed. Thanks for capturing such great moments!
We had an amazing show last night at the Blue Whale. We gave Alex a nice little birthday surprise as well. Thanks to everyone that came out, and nice meeting some new faces!
We're pleased to announce that the BLO will be performing at LA's hippest jazz club, the Blue Whale, on February 19th. We'll be starting at 9:00, and there is a $15 cover.
If you've never been, the Blue Whale is a fantastic music space in downtown's Little Tokyo neighborhood. Joon Lee, the owner, has gotten some fantastic press on the club. Join us there on the 19th for a night of great tunes.
The Blue Whale is located on the top floor of Weller Court. Garage parking is available off of 2nd St.

Jeremy will be slowly bringing in more charts for sale onto the web shop. He's been writing new music for the band that is currently not publicly available.
To get started, here's the first one: Ode to Abbott.
Stay tuned for more new music!
From There to Here has been released for a few months now, and we've had some very kind words thrown our way. Here's what people have been saying:
"I haven't enjoyed listening to a big band album like this one in a long time. The band plays tight, yet dynamically and leaves space for excellent solos. And the writing is stellar!" - Chris Walden - Grammy nominated composer/arranger
"I think Jeremy and Alex have a great thing going with the Budman/Levy Orchestra. The arrangements are killing and the playing is fantastic. If you like Contemporary Big Band music, dig this!" - Jeff Coffin - Saxophonist - Dave Matthews Band / Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
"There are plenty of big band albums being put out today, many are generic and bland. What makes a great album is real writing, written specifically for a real band, not a put together session ensemble playing music written the week before. It takes time and effort to do this properly and from the opening notes you can tell that Budman and Levy have done this right." - Tim Davies - Grammy nominated arranger/orchestrator
"Offering many wonderful big band moments on From There To Here, this very first outing from the Budman/Levy Orchestra poises the group as one of the most important ensembles from the west coast. This is contemporary big band music at its best." - Edward Blanco - All About Jazz
"'From There to Here,' a remarkable album by any measure." - Jack Bowers - All About Jazz
"No genre-blending, no cryptic music allusions... just undiluted big band jazz." - All About Jazz Download of the Day
"This is cutting edge, contemporary big band of the highest order." - JRK.Hubpages.com
"The writing of Levy is characterized by an abundance of appealing melodies and rhythmic grooves and much interesting musical development." - Don Lerman - Cadence
Thanks to David Golden at WPKN Radio in Bridgeport, CT for having us on. We chatted about the new record, and a bit about our musical upbringings.
Since his move to Los Angeles from San Francisco in 2005, Alex Budman has been in heavy demand as a session musician and soloist, recording on a wide variety of albums, TV shows, and movies. His command of the saxophone, clarinet, and flute keeps him busy playing in the top tier of LA’s musical community. Alex can currently be found touring with songwriter Christopher Cross and as a featured soloist with the national touring production of Fiddler on the Roof.
As a bandleader in the San Francisco Bay Area, Alex directed the 16-piece Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, playing more than 300 shows and recording two albums; the second, Instruments of Mass Pleasure, was released in 2005 to critical acclaim. Over the years, he has been fortunate enough to perform or record with some of music’s greats, including Eric Clapton, Boz Scaggs, Erykah Badu, Clare Fischer, Liza Minnelli, and Rosemary Clooney.
The Budman/Levy Orchestra is an exciting outlet for Alex to showcase his tenor saxophone playing and direct a top-flight group of musicians, all while working with the talented composer/trombonist Jeremy Levy.
Composer/Arranger/Orchestrator, Jeremy Levy has worked in nearly every medium in Los Angeles. As an orchestrator, he adds his musical touch to scores in film, television, and video games. Recent projects include Tower Heist, The Event, No Ordinary Family, Battlestar Gallactica, Batman: Arkham City, Infamous 2, and God of War 3. He has also provided arranging and music preparation services on everything from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, to American Idol.
After receiving a Master's Degree from the University of Miami in composition, Levy headed to Los Angeles to pursue his career. Since 2007, Levy has co-lead the Budman/Levy Orchestra featuring LA's top musicians. In 2010, he won the Airmen of Note's Sammy Nestico Award for arranging.
